Every coastline has its stories, and THE TALE OF TWO FISHES is Sesimbra’s with a ancient eastern twist. Two fish, Peixe Galo and Petinga, swimming the same waters but never quite in the same direction. One chasing the current, the other chasing the shore. A small story stitched onto cotton, for anyone who's ever felt pulled two ways at once.

We love how Angela blends the ancient Japanese Gyotaku technique with specimen from the Portuguese Atlantic. She used  Peixe Galo and Petinga bought at the local market from the village of Sesimbra and for quality purposes decided to use textile ink instead of sterilized cuttlefish ink.

Gyotaku is a traditional Japanese art form dates back to the mid-19th century, when the first fish gyotakus began to appear, developed by fishermen who wanted to somehow record their most important catches, whether for their size or rarity. Angela sure knows how to give it a fine Portuguese twist. 

As always, our unisex shirts are made from 100% cotton upcycled textiles. The threads we use are 100% organic cotton. And the buttons are collected from many friends in our community.

• Artist: On this piece we worked together with Sibylla Studio. Angela is a multi disciplinary artist blending art and science. She finds herself at the frontier between scientific illustration and the exploration of the aesthetic qualities offered by monotypes of natural specimens.

• Care: For best care and preservation, we recommend hand washing our shirts. Sometimes, hanging it outside in the fresh air is the best you can do for your shirts.
